“I told her she needs an attitude adjustment.” He replied.

“True.” She agreed reaching over to stroke his chest.

“I don’t think she’s ready for marriage.” Colby said with a sigh.

“Mike’s going to have his hands full.” She said as her hand drifted lower over his stomach.

“No you don’t, I need to grab a shower and get ready for work.” He said catching her wrist.

“What?” She asked innocently snuggling up against him with a smile. He wrapped his arms around her rubbing her back lightly. They laid there enjoying being together.
“Thanks for waking me up at two last night!” Matt said when Jeff opened the front door of Colby’s house.

“Serves you right for not telling me what was going on.” Jeff answered. He was still bent out of shape over being left out of the loop. He walked over to sit back down on the sofa.

“Where’s Colby?” Matt asked after getting a beer from the fridge and coming back into the living room.

“In bed!” Jeff snorted.

“Alone?” Matt asked.

“No.” Jeff replied with a frown. “They must be sleeping, sex doesn’t take that long.” Jeff muttered.

“Says you!” Matt told him with a grin.

“It’s not funny! He’ll probably go to jail over this.” Jeff pointed out.

“Where’s Mindy?” Mandy asked coming into the living room.

“Where do you think?” Jeff answered.

“Are they going to sleep all day? I’m bored!” Mandy said taking a seat on the couch.

“It’s a little after four, Colby has to work tonight.” Jeff said glancing at his watch.

“Thank God! He never fooled around with Teri when we were here.” Mandy commented.

“I don’t think he was that interested in Teri.” Matt said taking a swallow of beer.

“I don’t get it! Teri is drop dead gorgeous, and he prefers Mindy?” Jeff said shaking his head.

“What’s wrong with Mindy, she’s pretty?” Mandy said.

“She’s beautiful.” Colby corrected coming into the living room. His hair was still wet from the shower.

“It’s about time!” Jeff muttered.

“You look tired, didn’t you get enough sleep?” Matt asked with a knowing grin.
“No.” Colby replied with a smile.

“Christ you slept all afternoon!” Jeff told him.

“Who says I slept.” Colby answered.

“Sex doesn’t take that long.” Jeff stated.

“Making love does.” Colby pointed out. He was well aware of Jeff’s shortcomings in the bedroom.

“What’s for dinner?” Mandy asked wanting to change the subject. She was blushing.

“I’m starved!” Mindy said as she joined them. Her face was still flushed from their recent lovemaking. She was dressed in a pair of black warm up pants and a pink tank top. Her hair was still wet.

“Hamburgers.” Colby answered Mandy absently his eyes resting on Mindy. He watched as she wandered toward the front door to open it for Doug.

“Dammit! Can’t you wait until I ring the damn doorbell?” Doug grumbled coming into the house.

“Sorry.” She replied closing the door.

“Thanks for pissing my wife off.” He told her.

“What are you complaining about you got some last night.” She replied without thinking.

“Dammit! Stay out of my head!” Doug warned her with a glare.

“Gross you guys had sex!” Mandy groaned a loud.

“Who had sex?” Ashley asked as she and Mike came into the room.

“Doug and Monica.” Matt said with a grin.

“Ick!” Ashley said.

“I’m going to start dinner. Mindy give me a hand.” Colby told them taking Mindy’s hand he led her into the kitchen.

“What do you want me to do?” Mindy asked him.

“Stay out of my brother’s head.” He answered opening the fridge.

“Sorry, but it was a little hard not to pick up on that. It was like a red flag!” She replied in disgust. She couldn’t believe that Doug would want to make love to his wife after the way she had treated him. “I’ll set the table.” She said getting down the plates. Colby got the hamburger out of the fridge and set it on the counters. He selected several different spices from the cupboard. He quickly mixed the seasoning into the hamburger, before chopping up a salad. Mindy tossed the salad while he put the meat on the grill.

They were quick and efficient, the routine familiar and comfortable. They all sat down at five for dinner. They enjoyed a dinner of gourmet burgers and salad. Colby quickly ate, and took his plate to the sink. He turned to find Mindy had followed him. Wrapping his arms around her he pulled her close, leaning down to kiss her. The kiss was long and hungry. Colby’s family stared in shock. They had never seen him kiss Teri.

“Mindy wait! That’s not what I meant.” He said following her out of the kitchen. He found himself locked out of his bedroom. The irony of being locked out of his own bedroom wasn’t lost on him as he went back to the kitchen to retrieve his keys off the counter.

“Nice work Colby.” Ashley said from the table.

“Shut up Ash!” He replied grabbing the keys from the counter. He left the kitchen and quickly unlocked his bedroom door. Entering the room he found Mindy lying on her side on the bed crying.

“Baby, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it like that. You did a real good job on the kitchen.” He told her sitting down on the edge of the bed. He gently stroked her hair.

“Ashley is right, were not a good match. I’m a disorganized mess, and you’re an order freak.” She told him her shoulders jerking.

“Don’t listen to Ashley.” He told her gently.

“I can’t be like you, I have no sense of order. I can’t even get the kitchen right!” She moaned.

“I’m not asking you to be like me. I love you just the way you are.” He told her firmly.

“Really?” She asked turning to look at him.
“Yes.” He told her his eyes steady and true. He reached out to wipe her tears away. “In the future when I tell my sisters to clean up, let them do it.”

“They weren’t going to do it. And I didn’t want you to be mad all day.” She replied sitting up.

“Thank you for cleaning up the mess. I really appreciate it. And I’ll show you just how much I appreciate it after lunch.” He told her pulling her up off the bed. Mindy felt a surge of warmth move through her body at the way he was looking at her. They walked out of the bedroom and entered the kitchen. Where they sat down to eat. “Ash, you and Mandy clean this mess up.” Colby told his sisters when lunch was over.

“Why should we have to clean this mess up? We didn’t make it.” Ashley grumbled.

“Because you didn’t clean up the kitchen this morning like you were supposed to.” He told her with a frown.

“No.” Ashley told him crossing her arms. “You’re not my boss.”

“I can clean it up.” Mindy put in starting to rise from the table.

“Sit down.” He told her. “Ash I want a word with you downstairs right now.” He said rising from his chair.

“Fine.” Ashley said following him from the kitchen reluctantly. Colby looked pissed.

“When I tell you to do something, you do it!” He told her closing his office door.

“Why should I?” She asked. “It’s not like you can rat me out to Mom and Dad. Not unless you want your dirty little secret getting out.” She said with glee.



“The thing about secrets is we all have them.” He told her quietly. “Even you.”

“I don’t have any secrets.” Ashley said a cold chill running through her body.

“Really? How about the fact that you had sex with Mike’s best friend?” He asked her.

“How did you find out?” She asked the color draining from her face.

“I know things.” He answered. “So you’re going to drop your little attitude and behave starting right now. If you leak one word about Mindy and I to anyone, I’ll make sure Mike finds out all about how you cheated on him.” He warned. “Do you understand?”

“Yes.” She said with a grimace.

“You need to grow up Ash. You’re getting married in June. It bothers me more then a little bit that you cheated on Mike.”

“Why you cheated on Mindy?” She pointed out.

“That was different, Mindy and I weren’t together.”

“She says you were.”

“We were messing around, but not dating.” He replied. “I haven’t messed around with anyone since we became a couple.”

“I didn’t mean to cheat on Mike it just sort of happened.” She said shaking her head. “We weren’t engaged when it happened just dating.”

“That’s no excuse and you know it.” He told her.

“I know.”

“I’m worried about you, marriage is a big responsibility. And your childish behavior isn’t going to bode well in your marriage.” He said shaking his head.

“Are we done.” She asked unwilling to discuss her relationship with Mike.

“One more thing. You stay out of my relationship with Mindy.” He warned her with a frown. “I don’t want any repeats of today. Mindy’s a good friend to you, so I don’t understand why you would seek to hurt her. But I won’t tolerate it. You say anything to upset her again, and you’re out of here.”

“Fine.” She said moving toward the door.

“Make sure you do a good job of cleaning up the kitchen.” He told her following her back upstairs. “Come on.” He said pulling Mindy to her feet.

“Where are you going?” Jeff called after them.

“To bed.” Colby called over his shoulder.

“Dammit!” Jeff muttered.

Colby spent the rest of the afternoon expressing his appreciation to Mindy for cleaning up the kitchen. “I’m going to start cleaning up more around here if this is the reward I get every time.” Mindy told him still trying to catch her breath from yet anther mind blowing orgasm. Colby grinned stretching out. “So what did you say to Ashley?” She asked turning on her side to look at him.

“Nice work Ash!” Mindy told her with a frown. Colby was really mad. The door linking their minds had closed.

“What? He’s being a jerk!” Ashley said.

“You know how he is about his kitchen.” Mindy replied.

“He’s so gay about everything. I’m sorry Mindy but I think Colby’s gay.” Ash told her.

“He’s not gay. He just likes order.” Mindy said as she started clearing dishes from the table.

“Then why does he like you?” Ashley muttered getting up from the table.

“What?” Mindy asked.

“You’re the most disorganized person I’ve ever met.” Ashley answered. “If Colby likes order so much why is he dating you?”

“Good question.” Jeff said thoughtfully.

“Bet it doesn’t last.” Ashley called over her shoulder.

“Aren’t you going to help?” Mindy asked ignoring the stab of pain Ash’s words caused her.

“No.”

“Ash, Colby told you to clean up. He’ll be real pissed if he finds out you made Mindy clean up your mess. So get to work.” Jeff told Ash with a frown.

“Go to hell!” Ash told him.

“You watch your mouth.” Jeff said his face darkening.

“Make me!” Ashley taunted.

“That’s it! You get your ass in your room right now!” Jeff said rising to his feet.

“You’re not my boss!” Ashley said crossing her arms.

“I’m getting real sick of your attitude of late! You go to your room right now, or I’m calling mom and Dad!” He threatened.

“You do that! And I tell Mom all about your night with Becky!” she threatened back.

“You do that and I’ll rat Colby out! You know mom and Dad will put a stop to Colby seeing Mindy.” He replied crossing his arms. “Frankly I don’t give a damn anymore!”

“Ash! Knock it off!” Mike put in quietly.

“Fine.” Ash said storming from the room.

“Dammit! She’s turning into a real pain in the ass!” Jeff ranted. “Mandy help her clean up.” He told her indicating Mindy. Who was quietly picking up dishes.

“I’m not cleaning this mess up! I didn’t make it!” She replied.

“You helped!” Mike pointed out leaning back in his chair with a frown.

“Why did you sleep with Becky?” Mandy demanded suddenly.

“It just happened, I was drinking. She said she was eighteen.” Jeff answered. “Get to work.” He said before leaving the kitchen. He didn’t want to discuss his mistake, or the fact that he still thought about Becky all the time.

“You ruined her life!” Mandy called after her brother. She felt some satisfaction when he stiffened but continued out of the room. “Just leave the mess, Ash can clean it up.” She told Mindy before wandering from the kitchen.

It took Mindy over an hour to restore order to Colby’s kitchen. But finally she had the mess cleaned up. She was still hurting over Ashley’s comment. Ash had been right, she was a disorganized mess! How could Colby possibly like her? It would never last! She needed to get away and think about things. Picking up her purse and keys from the counter she headed out to the garage. She opened the door to walk out to her car which was parked in the driveway. Getting in her car she backed out of the driveway and drove off. Colby returned thirty minutes later to find Mindy’s car gone. Where had she gone he wondered as he made his way into the house. Jeff was watching TV in the living room. Colby went straight to the kitchen expecting to find a note from Mindy. There was no note. But the kitchen had been cleaned up. Everything sparkled. He opened the cupboards expecting to find that Ashley had tossed things in. But everything had been put back carefully. Just the way he liked with a few minor errors. Ash hadn’t cleaned up the kitchen, Mindy had he realized. “Where’s Mindy?” He asked Jeff going back into the living room.

“How should I know?” Jeff muttered, clearly not happy.

“Where’s Ashley?” Colby asked with a sigh.

“Off doing it with Mike most likely.” Jeff answered with a snort of disgust.

“Great!” He replied with a deep sigh. He opened the link between his and Mindy’s mind, hoping to contact her. But not only was the door closed to her mind. But she was shielding herself so that he couldn’t even get an impression of her. Why was she shielding herself? Was she angry that he had taken off that morning? Doug was walking toward his front door, but he didn’t bother to get up. The door was unlocked. “It’s open!” He called when Doug rang the doorbell. The door opened and Doug walked in with a frown.

“Thanks, for the two o’clock wake up call last night.” Doug said to Jeff.

“You deserved it! Thanks, for keeping me in the loop!” Jeff snorted.

“I knew you would overreact! And you have!” Doug replied glancing at Colby who was staring off in space with a frown.

“He’s sleeping with a minor and you think I’m overreacting?” Jeff asked in disbelief. “Unbelievable!”

“Where’s Mindy?” Doug asked.

“Good question.” Colby answered with a frown.

“Hi Doug!” Mandy said coming into the living room.

“Do you know where Mindy went?” Colby asked looking at Mandy.

“She’s not in your room?” Mandy asked in surprise.

“Her car is gone.” He replied shaking his head.

“Where’s Ashley?” Doug asked.



“In bed with Mike.” Jeff replied.

“What? Your letting them sleep together?” Doug asked his face darkening.
“They don’t have a choice. Ash is blackmailing them.” Mandy told her brother with a grin.

“Why?”

“It seems their taste for women runs on the young side.” Ash said coming into the room her face was still flushed. She had spent the last couple hours in bed with Mike.

“Their?” Doug asked with a frown.

“Oh? Didn’t you know that Jeff slept with Becky when she was only fifteen?” Ash answered with a casual shrug.

“What?” Doug exploded.

“He knocked her up as well!” Mandy put in.

“Thanks a lot.” Jeff told his sisters with a glare.

“You slept with Becky Miles? I don’t believe this!” Doug yelled.

“Good thing for Jeff she lost the baby.” Ashley said in disgust. “But poor Becky suffered a breakdown. Let’s hope Mindy doesn’t suffer from one when Colby dumps her!”

“Ash!” Mandy warned Mindy had entered the living room through the kitchen door.

“Oh, hi Mindy!” Ash said with a guilty look.

“I picked up lunch.” Mindy said forcing a smile to her lips. Everyone had turned to look at her.

“What did you pick up?” Jeff asked getting up from the sofa.

“Meatball subs from Geno’s.” Mindy replied.

“You got take out from Geno’s? You have to order a month in advance.” Doug said.


“What? Where did you get that idea? I go in there all the time to pick up lunch.” She told him with a frown. “Dammit! He said it was no big deal.” She said marching back into the kitchen shaking her head.

“Must be nice to get such special treatment.” Doug told her. Mindy didn’t reply, she went back out to the garage.

“What are you doing?” Colby asked her catching up to her by her car.

“Getting the groceries out.” Mindy replied as she walked to the rear of her car.

“You went grocery shopping?” He asked.

“I picked up a few things.” She answered with a shrug.

“A few?” He asked staring into her trunk which was full of grocery bags.

“You were out of a lot of stuff.” She commented picking up a couple bags.

“How did you pay for all of this?” He asked lifting a couple bags out of the trunk.

“I put it on my card.”

“I’ll pay you back.” He told her.

“Don’t worry about it. You’re letting me stay here while I recover. The least I can do is buy some groceries.” She replied carrying the bags into the house.

“You don’t have to do that.” He didn’t bother to argue with her. Clearly she was upset. Everyone was gathered around the kitchen table eating the take out. “Thanks for cleaning the kitchen up.” He told her quietly as they emptied the bags out on the counter.

“What makes you think I cleaned it up?” she asked him absently.

“Because the kitchen was nearly perfect, Ashley would never have taken the time to put things away so carefully.”

“What do you mean, nearly perfect?” She asked turning toward him with a frown on her face. “Do you know how long I spent cleaning this kitchen? I don’t believe this! Ashley’s right, were never going to last as a couple. I can’t even clean the kitchen up right!” She said bursting into tears she ran from the room.
